Late at night
I talk with the ocean.
I sit on the sand.
A million grains make a cozy seat,
But only one grain is felt profoundly
finding its way to my mouth.
We never get tired of looking at each other -
The ocean and I.
and when I speak,
Waves break in reply,
We contemplate who is deeper.
Tonight I win.
The moon listens,
a passive observer.
I raise my head and [...]

Viceversa – Mario Benedetti

Tengo miedo de verte
I have fear of seeing you
necesidad de verte
necessity of seeing you
esperanza de verte
hope of seeing you
desazones de verte.
uneases of seeing you.
Tengo ganas de hallarte
I have willingness of finding you
preocupación de hallarte
worry of finding you
certidumbre de hallarte
certainty of finding you
pobres dudas de hallarte.
poor doubts of finding you.
Tengo urgencia de oírte
I have urgency [...]
Tonight I can write the saddest lines

Puedo escribir los versos…
Tonight I can write the saddest…
Puedo escribir los versos más tristes esta noche.
Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
Escribir, por ejemplo: -La noche esta estrellada,
Write, for example, ‘The night is starry
y tiritan, azules, los astros, a lo lejos-.
and the stars are blue and shiver in the distance.’
El viento de la noche gira [...]
Give All To Love
Posted in poetry on July 30, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
Give all to love;
Obey thy heart;
Friends, kindred, days,
Estate, good fame,
Plans, credit, and the muse;
Nothing refuse.
‘Tis a brave master,
Let it have scope,
Follow it utterly,
Hope beyond hope;
High and more high,
It dives into noon,
With wing unspent,
Untold intent;
But ’tis a god,
Knows its own path,
And the outlets of the sky.
‘Tis not for the mean,
It requireth courage stout,
Souls above [...]
Táctica y estrategia

Mi táctica es
mirarte
aprender como sos
quererte como sos
mi táctica es
hablarte
y escucharte
construir con palabras
un puente indestructible
mi táctica es
quedarme en tu recuerdo
no sé cómo ni sé
con qué pretexto
pero quedarme en vos
mi táctica es
ser franco
y saber que sos franca
y que no nos vendamos
simulacros
para que entre los dos
no haya telón
ni abismos
mi estrategia es
en [...]

THERE WAS A TIME, I NEED NOT NAME.
There was a time, I need not name,
Since it will ne’er forgotten be,
When all our feelings were the same
As still my soul hath been to thee.
And from that hour when first thy tongue
Confess’d a love which equall’d mine,
Though many a grief my heart hath wrung,
Unknown and thus unfelt [...]
we’ll go no more a-roving

So we’ll go no more a-roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart still be as loving,
And the moon still be as bright.
For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul outwears the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And love itself have rest.
Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we’ll go [...]
come live with me and be my love

For Alexito.
Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That valleys, groves, hills, and fields,
Woods or steepy mountain yields.
And we will sit upon the rocks,
Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.
And I will make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap [...]
